Transforming medical imaging
“I act as a liaison between the clinical and IS teams,” begins Holly Boswell, CV Application Specialist. “We are currently using AGFA HealthCare’s Enterprise Imaging platform at three different hospital campuses. We are also at two healthplexes and 16 physician practice locations. We service over 50 cardiologists through that process.” “I am part of the imaging team that takes care of the radiology and cardiology PACS plus the VNA (vendor-neutral archive). We work with the clinical teams and doctors to see what their requirements are and what they want to achieve, and then work on applications,” describes Sujal Patel, Senior IIT Applications Analyst.
“We want to make sure they have their own worklists. When they log in, they see exactly what they need to do day-to-day. This makes things easier for them.” Furthermore, he adds, “Some of our physicians work remotely: they don’t want to come into the hospital if they don’t have to. We had to ensure we could achieve that remote access through the virtual desktop.”
Zero downtime and advanced tools
As Holly explains, “There are numerous advantages with the Enterprise Imaging platform…We have had no downtime. It is been a huge success to have a stable system.” The platform’s features include advanced tools for image analysis, reporting and collaboration, which have helped enable doctors to make faster and more confident diagnoses. “There are a lot of extended options within the Enterprise Imaging platform that we did not have before, including side-by-side comparisons. The conferences are new to us, as well. The physicians can anonymously review studies together: they are really using that functionality to their benefit and the benefit of the patient.”
