AGFA HealthCare announces that Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has chosen to replace their existing Radiology Information System (RIS) with an AGFA HealthCare Enterprise Imaging RIS solution, across the Trust’s five sites, that together deliver approximately 460,000 examinations a year for all radiology patients.

Based on the next-generation Enterprise Imaging RIS and Scheduling components, the solution will work with the Trust’s existing third-party PACS, to fully support radiology workflows within the Trust today and into the future. In addition, AGFA’s Business Intelligence solutions will facilitate mandatory reporting, regulatory and audit requirements.

Full support for radiology workflows, today and in the future

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of Yorkshire’s leading acute trusts, serving a population of more than 420,000 across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas. Hosting three main hospital sites and a number of additional services, the Trust is one of only five teaching hospitals in Yorkshire.

With our existing RIS reaching its end of life, it was important to us that we could replace it without replacing our PACS as well. AGFA HealthCare’s RIS solution made that possible. Furthermore, with the Business Intelligence tools, it supports not only the full end-to-end medical imaging pathway, but also our mandatory reporting, regulatory and audit requirements,” says Dr. Jas Sawhney, Clinical Director of Medical Imaging, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The RIS will support 250 staff and 21 radiologists across 5 sites, with 300 additional RIS viewing logins across the Trust. As the Enterprise Imaging RIS integrated with a third-party PACS has already been successfully deployed in other NHS and healthcare organisations across the UK, Ireland and globally, we are confident that this set-up will also be the ideal solution to support our radiology workflow needs,” says Sara Elliott, Head of RadiologyDoncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Reflecting on the partnership, Roberto Anello, Regional President for Northern Europe, comments:

“We are proud that Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has entrusted AGFA HealthCare, with this key part of their radiology infrastructure. Designed to be scalable and secure, the solution is able to grow as they grow along their regional requirements. The Trust will also benefit from future developments and enhancements including the move to a web-based application, allowing the flexibility to use the solution on any workstation, including for clerical functions such as order acquisition. Further enhancements to core technologies, such as streaming, will also be available for the Trust”.

The complete, end-to-end medical imaging pathway

The contract for the RIS includes industry-leading features and components that support the full end-to-end medical imaging pathway for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including:

  • A RIS-led reporting workflow
  • Order placement and receiving
  • Procedure scheduling
  • Patient registration and arrival
  • Image acquisition workflows
  • Procedure protocolling/Vetting
  • Structured and precision reporting
  • MDT workflows
  • Result distribution (or integration to order comms where applicable)
  • Audit capabilities
  • Business intelligence
  • A full-service management package

A huge welcome to the Trust! We look forward to a strong partnership together!
