Sant Joan de Déu Health Park in Catalonia, Spain and AGFA HealthCare strengthen their long-term relationship, with smooth transition to Enterprise Imaging at Sant Boi Hospital

AGFA HealthCare is pleased to announce the smooth and successful go-live of AGFA HealthCare Enterprise Imaging at Sant Boi Hospital in the Parc Sanitari San Joan de Déu, in Barcelona, Spain. By delivering near-real-time access and a simplified and productive workflow to radiologists, wherever they are working, AGFA HealthCare Enterprise Imaging supports the hospital’s radiologists’ workflow and enables them to work at the top of their craft.

The Parc Sanitari is part of the Orden Hospitalaria San Juan de Dios (Brothers Hospitallers of Saint John of God); several of the Order’s other hospitals in Spain have also migrated to the Enterprise Imaging platform.

Near-real-time image access enhances remote radiology reading

Dr. Ana Sanchez, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at Hospital de Sant Boi, led the hospital’s clinical team for implementing Enterprise Imaging. “The implementation was done in record time. The smooth transition was the result of close collaboration between the highly professional and knowledgeable teams from both the hospital and from AGFA HealthCare. This included carrying out a careful analysis of all elements of the solution, to make sure the configuration chosen would meet our specific needs. Both our radiology and IT teams are very pleased with the solution.”

She continues, “Enterprise Imaging will enable us to increase radiology productivity, with improved workflows, while the Business Intelligence (BI) tools will improve our departmental analysis capabilities. Importantly, the solution will also enhance the remote work experience for our radiologists; this will play a key role in allowing us to continue to attract the best diagnostic radiologists from all over Spain, so we can provide our patients with optimal care.”

We are delighted that Sant Boi Hospital and the Parc Sanitari San Joan de Déu have chosen to strengthen our long-term relationship. Enterprise Imaging is now live at several hospitals that are part of the Orden Hospitalaria San Juan de Dios, and we a proud to work with such an important health organization in Spain, and to play our role in supporting its mission – healing and caring for the most disadvantaged people,” says Miguel Angel Navarro Romero, AGFA HealthCare Country Sales Manager Iberia.

Pere Serrat Quintana, Director of Information Systems at Hospital de Sant Boi highlights: “The project was thoroughly developed in both technical and functional aspects by teams from the two institutions. This key process has streamlined the implementation and start-up of the new system, including incorporating all previous cases and specifications, introducing new functionalities, and migrating the entire archive to the new solution. AGFA HealthCare Enterprise Imaging has simplified the systems architecture for us while making it more robust.”

Keeping radiologists at the top of their craft

Parc Sanitari San Joan de Déu is a non-profit private institution with a vocation of public service, which belongs to the Orden Hospitalaria San Juan de Dios (OHSJD). This Catholic religious order, founded in 1537, is today one of the world’s largest international non-profit cooperative organizations. The Order carries out a wide range of health and social service activities in 389 centres and services in 46 countries.

Sant Boi Hospital, which carries out around 100,000 imaging exams per year, has been a customer of AGFA HealthCare for image management since 2008. The hospital went live with Enterprise Imaging in January 2024, replacing an end-of-life system with a modern platform that allows them to continue to offer reliable and quality care services to patients.

The contract includes Enterprise Imaging for Radiology, the AGFA HealthCare XERO® Universal Viewer, clinical applications and AGFA HealthCare Business Intelligence. This configuration supports the hospital in the face of the continuing shortage of radiologists, by enabling productive and simplified teleworking. Clinicians also have fast, easy access to images and reports, through the XERO® Universal Viewer. Improved workflows and enriched insight from the Business Intelligence tools support enhanced productivity in radiology and beyond.

AGFA HealthCare has a strong market presence in Spain, with more than 80 Enterprise Imaging and PACS installations.  AGFA HealthCare’s consolidated image management platform is designed to help radiologists, cardiologists and other clinical users work at the top of their craft and stay fully focused and free of distractions. The seamless integration of advanced clinical applications enables frictionless access to the tools that help improve diagnostic quality and accuracy. The platform keeps the entire healthcare ecosystem in flow, enabling healthcare providers to leverage medical imaging across the care continuum. By allowing images and related data to be captured, managed, stored and distributed across the enterprise, it eliminates inefficient imaging siloes.

Great news – and a huge thank you to the customer and #TeamAGFA project leads!
